I would suggust to you that you are probably not shaving correctly. You are probably pulling the hairs out of the skin instead of actually cutting them.

Dry Shaving (basically running a dry razor over skin, or just wetting it under the faucet) is the biggest offender.

Tbe best way to prevent the ingrown hairs from my experience is to shave just after a shower. It softens the hair and skin. Use a good shaving gel and let it sit on the face for 2 to 3 minutes. Change your blade often (every 10 to 15 days, if you shave on a daily basis).

Persons of ethnic descent can have a much more severe version of ingrown follicles, as the hair coils more. Shaving every other day and following up with a topical antibiotic for 2 weeks should help with the swelling and inflammation.
